Women’s Lacrosse bounces back with 19-3 victory over Wells

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Buffalo State women's lacrosse team bounced back in a big way, scoring the first 11 goals in a 19-3 rout of Wells College, in non-league action from Coyer Field Wednesday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
Liz Schultheis (Holley, NY/Brockport) led the team offensively with seven points, scoring twice while adding five assists. She also was dominant in the faceoff circle, winning seven draw controls.
- Sarah Fineour (West Seneca, N.Y./West Seneca West) led the team with five goals.
- Sage Running Rabbit (Siksika, Alb./Strathmore) scored four goals and Tala Abdellatif (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) added three goals and one assist.
- Lily Conroy (Sanborn, N.Y./Niagara-Wheatfield) and Trinity Battle (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) each scored a goal and added an assist.
- Nevaeh Herd (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Falls) scored twice and Lindsay Wademan (Owego, N.Y./Owego Free Academy) scored once to complete the scoring.
Anastacia Wells (Rome, N.Y./Rome Free Academy) led the defense with six caused turnovers and eight ground balls.
Janae Nelson (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial) made five saves in net for the Bengals, earning her first victory of the season.
- Buffalo State outshot Wells by a 30-11 margin, earned a 25-14 ground ball advantage, and won 17 of 25 draws.
- The Bengals also converted on 17-of-20 clear opportunities.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Buffalo State got off to a quick start, scoring 45 seconds into the contest on a Schultheis to Wademan connection.
- The score remained 1-0 for the next eight minutes, with both defenses holding the offenses at bay.
- The Bengals broke the dam over the final six minutes of the period, scoring seven times including five goals in a 1:08 span.
- Running Rabbit got her first goal of the game to begin the second quarter (10:58), then Abdellatif tallied her first career goal 11 seconds later to take a 10-0 lead.
- Fineour went the distance at the 8:10 mark, tallying her fourth of the game on a solid individual play to complete the 11-0 run.
- Clara Lima, Wells' leading scorer, broke the drought with a goal at 7:04 to get the Express on the board.
-Abdellatif found Running Rabbit for her third goal of the game at 4:59, as the Bengals went into halftime with a 12-1 lead.
-Mackenzie Powers began the second half with a goal for Wells, her first of the season at 13:10.
- The Bengals then went on a 5-0 run between the third and fourth quarters, with Running Rabbit and Abdellatif scoring twice, and Fineour adding her fifth of the game.
- Lima broke the run with her second goal of the game at 8:39 in the fourth quarter, an unassisted tally.
- Herd tallied her second goal at the 5:17 mark, and Battle tallied her first career goal with 28 seconds left, completing the scoring.
 
FOR THE FOES
- Lima led Wells with two goals, adding six draw controls and two ground balls.
- The Express went 13-of-19 on clear chances and took four free position shots.
