ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Buffalo State softball team broke out with eight runs in the first inning of game two and held off a furious Oneonta comeback, as the Bengals defeated the Red Dragons, 10-9. The Bengals dropped game one to Oneonta by a 6-1 score as the teams earned a Monday afternoon split.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Oriana Castello (Pearl River, N.Y./Nanuet), Taylor Benton (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara-Wheatfield), and Kruse reached on errors, as a run scored.
- After Caitlyn Parsons (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) walked to load the bases, McIntosh cleared it with a three-RBI double, giving the Bengals a 4-0 lead.
- A few batters later, Wlostowski hit a two-out, RBI double to left center field, scoring McIntosh.
- Fielding errors brought three more runs in, as the Bengals finished with an eight-run inning.
- Oneonta followed with a run in the bottom of the inning.
- The Bengals tallied another run in the second, as Kellogg sent a double down the left field line, scoring Parsons.
- The Red Dragons crept back in the game, scoring two runs in the second, and adding runs in the fourth and fifth innings as the Bengals led 9-5.
- In the sixth, Kruse tallied the eventual game-winning hit, a leadoff home run to center field, giving the Bengals a five-run lead.
- Oneonta responded with four runs in the sixth, as Palmatier hit a grand slam home run to left field.
- A fielding error put the game-tying run on base in the seventh, but the ball never left the infield after that, as Carr forced three infield putouts to prevent the comeback.
FOR THE FOES
- Oneonta tallied nine hits but made five errors in the field in the loss.
- Megan Palmatier led the Red Dragons with three hits, driving in four runs on her third home run of the season.
- Marissa Dionisio pitched to five Bengal batters but did not record an out, allowing five runs on one hit to fall to 3-1.
