Lacrosse set to host Oswego Wednesday

BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo State women's lacrosse team looks to extend its win streak to three straight games as Oswego State comes to town for a 4 p.m. showdown on Wednesday. Follow along with VIDEO or LIVE STATS

 

A Breakdown Of The Bengals

·       Buffalo State (5-4, 1-2 SUNYAC) is on a two-game winning streak. The Bengals defeated Mount Aloysius 19-7 on Wednesday and Plattsburgh 13-8 on Saturday.

·       Against Plattsburgh on Saturday, Sarah Fineour (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) led the way with four total goals, and Liz Schultheis (Holley, NY/Brockport) contributed three tallies of her own in the 13-8 victory.

·       Janae Nelson (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial) set a Bengal record with 10 ground balls, passing a mark set in 2017 by Cassie Saint-Vil.

·       Nelson also tallied a career-high 25 saves, one short of the school record. She was named SUNYAC Defensive Athlete of the Week in the process.

·       Offensively, the Bengals are 19th in the country in free position percentage, converting on 52.6 percent of their chances.

·       Defensively, the Bengals lead the SUNYAC in caused turnovers (11.78 per game), are second in draw controls (13.56 per game), and third in scoring defense (9.78 goals allowed per game).

 

A Look-In At The Lakers

·       Oswego State (3-8, 2-2 SUNYAC) snapped a two-game losing streak, narrowly holding on to beat New Paltz 9-8 last Saturday.

·       Shae McConnell and Madison Davis each spearheaded the Laker victory with three goals apiece. 

·       The Lakers lead the conference with 20.64 ground balls per game, and Sela Wiley leads the way, with a conference-leading 4.64 ground balls per game.

·       The Lakers are seventh in scoring offense, averaging 10.36 goals per game, and allows 12.00 goals per game.

 

The History

Buffalo State is 10-18 overall versus Oswego in the all-time matchup. In the 2021 season, the Lakers pulled away in the second half of a 14-4 win.
