Softball Looks to Bounce Back Against Nazareth

BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo State softball team will look to get back on track this afternoon, taking on Nazareth in a non-conference doubleheader at Softball Field. Game one will begin at 3 p.m., with game two scheduled for 5 p.m.

EYES ON THE BENGALS
 
-Buffalo State is 7-15 overall (2-6 SUNYAC), and looking to snap a two-game losing streak after dropping a doubleheader to New Paltz in SUNYAC play yesterday.
 
-Abigail Kruse (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) is the only Buffalo State hitter to go yard so far this season. She has homered twice, most recently in a victory over Oneonta on Monday evening.
 
-Leadoff hitter Oriana Castello (Pearl River, NY/Nanuet) leads Buffalo State with 27 hits, the seventh-most hits in the conference this season. She is also tied for 13th in the SUNYAC with 16 runs scored.
 
-Taylor Benton (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Wheatfield), Caitlyn Parsons (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas), and Kayla Wolinski (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) are all in the top five in the conference in doubles this year. Benton is in third place with nine doubles, while Parsons and Wolinski are tied for fourth place with seven doubles apiece.
 
A BIRD'S-EYE VIEW OF THE GOLDEN FLYERS
 
-Nazareth is 10-12 overall (4-4 Empire 8) after splitting a conference doubleheader with St. John Fisher yesterday evening. The Golden Flyers won 4-3 in extra innings in game one, but were shut out 3-0 in game two.
 
-Sarah Simmons leads the Golden Flyers offensively with a .471 batting average, 33 hits, seven doubles, and 23 runs batted in.
 
-Emily Daciw and Maddie Funk have combined to pitch 134.1 out of 143.2 totals innings this season for Nazareth.
 
-The Golden Flyers have attempted to steal just four times this season in 22 games. Nazareth; however, is 4-for-4 in those attempts.
 
THE HISTORY
 
Buffalo State holds a commanding 11-1 lead over Nazareth since 2008, including a current winning streak of 10 games. Sydney McIntosh (Buffalo, NY/Kenmore West) was 5-for-6 with a home run, four RBIs and four runs scored in a doubleheader sweep for the Bengals in 2019.
