Box Score 2 GENESEO, N.Y. – The Geneseo pitching staff slowed the hot bats of the Buffalo State softball team, as the Bengals dropped a doubleheader to the SUNYAC-leading Knights in conference action Friday afternoon. The Bengals fell in both games, 4-0 and 11-3.
GAME 1 BASICS

- Geneseo tallied a pair of runs in the first inning, manufacturing runs on a grounder and a sacrifice fly to left field.
- The Knights added a run in the third with a one-out, RBI single to left field by Audrey Minton.
- Geneseo added its fourth run in the fourth after beginning the frame with a pair of hits.
- Geneseo starter Lauren Kersch had a perfect game until the sixth inning, as Congelosi struck a two-out single to right field.
- Oriana Castello (Pearl River, N.Y./Nanuet) was hit by a pitch in the next at-bat to put a runner in scoring position, before Kersch ended the Bengal rally with a strikeout.
- Wolinski tallied the Bengals' second hit with two outs in the seventh inning.
FOR THE FOES
- Kersch pitched a complete-game shutout, improving to 9-0 with two hits allowed, striking out four batters.
- Leah VanDerwarker and Samantha Martz each tallied two hits.

- Caitlyn Parsons (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) went 3-for-3, scoring a run.
- Congelosi added two more hits, finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI.
- Taylor Benton (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara-Wheatfield) and Deme Kellogg (Gansevoort, N.Y./South Glens Falls) each tallied a hit with a run driven in.
- Kayla Wolinski (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) tallied a hit and scored a run, extending her hitting streak to seven games.
- Carli Bogue (Elba, N.Y./Elba) allowed just two earned runs in two innings. Carr allowed an earned run in 3.1 innnings pitched.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bengals broke through in the opening inning, as a leadoff Castello walk and steal of second led to a Benton RBI single to left field, scoring the speedy Castello.
- Geneseo responded with a run off a Bengal miscue, as a passed ball scored VanDerwarker from third.
- Geneseo then took the lead in the second, with a VanDerwarker RBI single into right field.
- Buffalo State fought back with a two-out rally, beginning with an Kellogg RBI double into right field and culminating with a Congelosi RBI single into center field, taking a 3-2 lead in the third.
- Geneseo took the lead right back with a five-run third as the Knights led 7-3.
- Geneseo added a pair of insurance runs in the fourth, leading 9-3.
- The Bengals threatened in the fifth, as a leadoff Benton walk and a Parsons single put runners on, but couldn't get a run in as the Knights maintained a six-run lead.
- The Knights ended the game early with a three-run sixth inning, capped by a game-clinching RBI single to center field by Olivia Fazio.
FOR THE FOES
- Fazio led Geneseo with four hits, driving in four runs and scoring twice.
- VanDerwarker added three hits and three RBI.
- Elizabeth Eberhardt improved to 4-1, picking up the win in relief after allowing just three hits in the final 3 1/3 innings.
