Lacrosse Hosts Cortland in Team Molly Game

Game begins Saturday at noon

BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo State lacrosse will wrap up the regular season with the Team Molly Game on Saturday afternoon. The Bengals will host SUNYAC foe Cortland at 12 p.m. from Coyer Field, with both teams wearing warm-up shirts to honor former Buffalo State lacrosse player Molly Seifritz. Follow along with VIDEO or LIVE STATS.

EYES ON THE BENGALS

-Buffalo State sits at 6-8 overall (2-6 SUNYAC). Lauren Rinow's (Lakeview, NY/Frontier) game-winning goal in double overtime gave the Bengals a 6-5 victory over Fredonia in their final road contest of the year on Wednesday evening.

-After recording four caused turnovers in the victory over Fredonia, Anastacia Wells (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) broke the previous Buffalo State single-season record of 42 by Sarah Lorusso in 2016. Wells' 45 caused turnovers lead the conference, and her 3.21 caused turnovers per game are tenth-best nationally.

-Liz Schultheis (Holley, NY/Brockport) holds a slim advantage in the SUNYAC draw control race over Oswego's Sela Wiley heading into the final game of the regular season. Schultheis has 76 draw controls on the year to lead the SUNYAC.

-Janae Nelson (Elmont, NY/Elmont Memorial) has started all 42 games in her career, recording 403 saves. She is third in Buffalo State program history, just 17 saves behind Elyse Stark in second place, and nine saves behind Colleen George in third place.

RESEARCHING THE RED DRAGONS

-Cortland, 12-4 overall (8-0 SUNYAC), comes into Saturday's contest riding an 11-game winning streak after a 19-1 victory over Potsdam, and the Red Dragons are ranked 21st nationally.

-Hannah Lorenzen leads the Red Dragons, and the SUNYAC, with 50 goals. She has also recorded a team-high 68 draw controls.

-Cortland allows the fewest goals per game in the conference (7.88). Goalkeeper Paige Potter has a 8.03 goals against average to lead the SUNYAC, and a 12-4 record between the pipes.

-Head coach Kelsey Van Alstyne (nee Schwan) was an assistant coach for the Bengals in 2013, and served as the interim head coach in 2014. Assistant coach Emily Bitka is the daughter of Buffalo State football associate head coach Terry Bitka.

THE HISTORY

The Red Dragons hold a commanding 25-1 record against the Bengals since 1995. Cortland defeated Buffalo State 18-4 in the previous meeting of the teams in 2019, and the Bengals will look to end a 12-game losing streak against Cortland dating back to 2009.
