Lacrosse to host Mount Aloysius Wednesday

Contest begins at 3 p.m. from Coyer Field

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Buffalo State lacrosse team will take a brief break from SUNYAC action this week, as the Bengals host Mount Aloysius in a non-conference tilt from Coyer Field Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. This contest is a make-up from a previously scheduled tilt on March 12.

EYES ON THE BENGALS
  • Buffalo State is 3-4 overall and 0-2 after two conference contests. Last week, the Bengals fell to a ranked Geneseo squad by a 17-4 score last Wednesday, then fell in an 18-11 shootout to Potsdam on Saturday, both games on the road.
  • The Bengal defense leads the conference and are 27th nationally in caused turnovers, causing 12.86 per game.
  •  The Bengals also lead the conference with 21.0 ground balls per game and are second with 14.29 draw controls per contest.
  • Buffalo State converts on 77.4 percent of their clearance chances, while opponents clear the ball 66.7 percent of the time.
  • The Bengals also outshoot their opponents by an average of 24.0-22.3 shots per game.
  • Senior attack Liz Schultheis (Holley, N.Y./Brockport) is 27th in the nation (and leads the conference) with 7.0 draw controls per game. She also leads the team with 22 points, scoring 13 goals while adding a team-leading nine assists.
  • Schultheis tied a Buffalo State record in her last contest, with 18 draw controls vs. Potsdam. She now shares the record with Karen Shaddock '12, who tallied 18 draw controls vs. Elmira in 2012.
  • Freshman defender Anastacia Wells (Rome, N.Y./Rome Free Academy) continues to have a great rookie season, currently leading the conference in both caused turnovers per game (3.14) and ground balls per game (4.29).
  • A pair of attackers are on scoring streaks, as sophomore Julia Wachna (Syracuse, N.Y./Onondaga) rides a four-game goals streak, while fellow classmate Sarah Fineour (West Seneca, N.Y./West Seneca West) has scored in five consecutive games.
  • Senior goalie Janae Nelson (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial) sports a 12.18 goals against average and sports a .353 save percentage in seven starts.
 
MONITORING THE MOUNTIES
  • Mount Aloysius, members of the United East Conference, comes into Wednesday's contest with a 3-5 overall record and a 1-1 mark in conference contests.
  • The Mounties began league play last weekend, defeating Wells by a 14-3 score on Friday, before falling to Morrisville State by a 17-5 margin the next day.
  • Buffalo State and Mount Aloysius share two common opponents so far this season: Wells and Lycoming. The Bengals defeated Wells at home 19-3 (Mar. 9) and fell to Lycoming on the road, 14-10 (Mar. 19). The Mounties defeated Wells in the aforementioned matchup last Friday and fell to Lycoming by a 17-5 margin in the season opener on March 5.
  • The Mounties lead the conference (and are 38th nationally) in scoring defense, giving up just 7.71 goals per game.
  • The Mounties also lead the conference with just 14.14 turnovers per game, and are 23rd nationally.
