Women's Soccer Wins Home Opener, 2-0 Over Morrisville

BUFFALO, NY – Macey Gioeli (N. Tonawanda, NY/N. Tonawanda) netted a pair of goals to lead the Buffalo State women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over Morrisville in its home opener on Sunday afternoon at Coyer Field.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
 
  • Gioeli led Buffalo State with five shots on goal, scoring her fifth and sixth goals of the season. 
  • Ryan Berman (River Edge, NJ/River Dell) and Kaylee Valentic (N. Tonawanda, NY/N. Tonawanda) each registered an assist.
  • Bella Vene (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) made two saves for the victory, and Taylor Clisson (Syracuse, NY/Solvay) and Samantha Kaufman (Cheektowaga, NY/West Seneca East) preserved the clean sheet.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
  • Buffalo State came out firing, taking an early lead in the ninth minute when Berman sent Gioeli alone on goal with an excellent through ball, which Gioeli was able to finish underneath the keeper to the left corner. 
  • The Bengals continued the pressure, and the second-best opportunity of the half came when Chloe Adams (Watertown, NY/Watertown) was denied by an excellent save from the Morrisville keeper in the 45th minute. 
  • Buffalo State came out of halftime shooting, as Gia Dilimone (Grand Island, NY/Sacred Heart) shot just over the top of the crossbar from outside the box. 
  • Gioeli doubled the lead in the 74th minute with a left-footed strike after Valentic dribbled past a defender and delivered a low cross in to the feet of Gioeli. 
  • The Bengals outshot the Mustangs 26-2 in the contest, including a 15-2 advantage in shots on target.
 
FOR THE FOES
 
  • Melanie Rott made 13 saves in goal to keep Morrisville close despite the onslaught of Buffalo State shots.

The Bengals are back in action on Thursday evening, hosting Houghton in non-conference action at 7 p.m.
