BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo State women's volleyball team wrapped up the 2022 Bengal Challenge on Saturday afternoon with a split of two matches, defeating Pitt-Greensburg and falling to Bluffton.
GAME TWO BASICS

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
- Samantha Coakley (Lockport, NY/Lockport) had 12 of Buffalo State's 39 kills in the match, along with five service aces.
- Jenna Hugenschmidt (Clarence Center, NY/Clarence) had 12 digs, while Maddie Hannon (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville North) added 11 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- With the score tied at 18-18 in the first set, the Bengals rattled off the final seven points, capped by an ace and kill by Riley Domin (Getzville, NY/Williamsville South).
- Hugenschmidt had consecutive aces in the second set to give Buffalo State an 11-8 lead that it would not relinquish.
- The Bengals also closed the second set by winning the final seven points.
- Buffalo State fell behind 12-9 in the third set, before a six-point serving run by Karlie Shaffer (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown East) gave the Bengals the lead.
- The Bengals stretched their lead to as many as five, and Myah Platler (Syracuse, NY/Solvay) capped the victory with a kill.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
- Eden Harrison (Eldersburg, MD/Century) had seven kills, while Liz Schultheis (Holley, NY/Brockport) added 12 kills on a .417 hitting percentage.
- Shaffer led the Bengals with 17 assists in the match, with Domin's 16 assists right behind.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- With the score locked at 14-14 in the first set, Erin Mergler (Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) had a kill, followed by three straight kills by Schultheis to build a four-point advantage.
- The Bengals led by as many as seven points in the opening set, holding on for a 25-20 victory.
- Bluffton used a seven-point run in the middle of the second set to springboard itself to a 25-19 victory.
- The third set was tight throughout, until the Beavers took eight of the final ten points for a two sets to one advantage.
- Bluffton raced out to a 16-5 lead in the fourth set, which was too much for the Bengals to overcome.
