FREDONIA, NY – The Buffalo State women's volleyball team earned a sweep of Battle by the Lake foe Fredonia in its SUNYAC opener on Wednesday evening. With the victory, the Bengals also earned the first two points of the season towards the Lake Erie Cup.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
- Samantha Coakley (Lockport, NY/Lockport) led Buffalo State with ten kills, while Erin Mergler (Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) added six kills.
- Karlie Shaffer (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown East) dished out 13 assists, while Riley Domin (Getzville, NY/Williamsville South) had 12 helpers.
- Liz Schultheis (Holley, NY/Brockport) had a match-high and season-high six blocks.
- Eden Harrison (Eldersburg, MD/Century), Jenna Hugenschmidt (Clarence Center, NY/Clarence), and Angelina Scichilone (Holtsville, NY/Sachem East) all had seven digs to lead the Buffalo State defense.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bengals raced out to a 13-5 lead in the opening set, but Fredonia battled back to take a 25-24 lead.
- Buffalo State fought off a pair of set point opportunities, then earned the 29-27 victory to take a 1-0 lead.
- Trailing 19-18 in the second set, an ace by Scichilone and a kill by Harrison led the Bengals on a four-point run, and Mergler closed out the set with a kill a few points later.
- The Bengals used a six-point run behind the serving of Domin, and a pair of Valerie Ryan (Queens, NY/Frank Sinatra) kills to take a 20-13 lead in the third set, and cruised to a 25-19 victory.
FOR THE FOES
- Kourtney Krchniak handed out 26 assists to led the Blue Devils.
