Men's Soccer Storms Back to Defeat Plattsburgh 3-1

PLATTSBURGH, NY – Manu Prieto (Cascais, Portgul/Salesianos Do Estoril) scored the tying goal in the second half, and Diego Rivera (East Meadow, NY/Cairo Durham) netted twice for the game-winning goal and an insurance goal to help the Buffalo State overcome a second-half deficit in a 3-1 victory over Plattsburgh on Saturday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
  • Rivera's two goals were his SUNYAC-leading 10th and 11th goals of the season.
  • In addition to his goal, Prieto added assists on both of Rivera's goals.
  • Shae Wirt (Overland Park, KS/St. Thomas Aquinas) made four saves in goal for the win.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Buffalo State and Plattsburgh each had four shot attempts and one shot on target in the first half, but each goalie made one save to keep the game scoreless at halftime.
  • The Cardinals got on the board first in the 48th minute on a goal by Connor Howe.
  • Prieto knotted things up for Buffalo State in the 57th minute with an unassisted goal.
  • Rivera gave Buffalo State the lead in the 71st minute off of an assist from Prieto, then added an insurance goal only two minutes later, also assisted by Prieto.
  • The Bengals held strong against a barrage of shot attempts from Plattsburgh in the final minutes, earning the vital SUNYAC victory.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Teddy Healy made two saves in goal for the Cardinals, and John Hayes had an assist on the lone Plattsburgh goal.

The Bengals are back on the road on Wednesday, heading to Oswego to face the Lakers at 4 pm.
