BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo State women's volleyball team dropped their matchup with the visiting Cortland Red Dragons today in three sets at the Buffalo State Sports Arena.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
- Samantha Coakley (Lockport, NY/Lockport) led the Bengals with nine kills in the effort.
- Karlie Shaffer (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown East) led the team with 19 assists while Adi Vergara (Rio Grande, Puerto Rico/Kingdom Christian) had 14 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Red Dragons jumped out to an early 8-3 lead in the opening set following a pair of attack errors from the Bengals.
- Buffalo State gained some momentum and brought the score to a 10-9 Cortland lead following a kill from Erin Mergler (Amherst, NY/Williamsville North).
- Cortland responded with an 8-1 run to cruise to a first set victory.
- During the second set, the Bengals pushed Cortland until the Red Dragons went on an 8-1 run to finish off the middle set.
- The Red Dragons opened the final set with a 4-1 start.
- The Bengals stayed competitive much of the way, but Cortland rallied off six of the last nine points to secure the victory.
FOR THE FOES
- Allie Sturgess led the Red Dragons with a match-high 14 kills.
- Ryan Hinshaw tallied 20 assists while Mikenzie Martens had 16 digs.

The Bengals return to action next Friday as they travel to Plattsburgh for a 6:00 pm matchup with the Cardinals.
