ALFRED, NY – The Buffalo State women's basketball team dropped their season opener against the Alfred University Saxons this afternoon by a final score of 57-47 at the Terry S. Galanis Family Arena.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
- Maddy Stearns (Clarence, NY/Clarence) led the Bengals with 18 points in her Buffalo State debut.
- Xaneya Thomas (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) and Jadyn Jones (The Seneca Nation/Lake Shore) each had six rebounds.
- Thomas also registered four steals in the effort.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Alfred's offense came out firing going up 20-8 following the end of the first quarter.
- After a free throw from Stearns, the Bengals were able to cut the lead down to five.
- The Saxons scored eight of the final nine points to head into halftime leading 30-18.
- Alfred pulled away in the third quarter seeing their lead reach a game-high 22, however, the Bengals were able to gain momentum at the end scoring the final seven points.
- Buffalo State got the lead down to seven in the fourth, but the Saxons held on in the final minutes to secure the win.
FOR THE FOES
- Leah Harkenrider led Alfred with 12 points.
- Jayda Felker tallied 11 points of her own along with five rebounds.
