Men's Basketball Comeback Comes Up Short Against Alfred University

BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo State men's basketball team fell short in their comeback efforts in a non-conference matchup against Alfred University today with a 58-57 final at the Sports Arena.

  • Nigel Burch (Sicklerville, NJ/Timber Creek) tallied his first career double-double with 25 points and 14 rebounds.
  • Matt Parkinson (Springfield Gardens, NY/John Browne) also had a strong showing scoring 22 points with six rebounds.
  • Tyseer Rahman (Westbury, NY/Bishop Loughlin) led the team with three assists.
  • As a team, Buffalo State was 10-12 from the free throw line.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Saxons got things going early on offense scoring the first eight points of the contest.
  • The Bengals offense rallied back to shrink the lead down to five.
  • Alfred pulled away again late in the half and led 35-26 at halftime.
  • Buffalo State came out firing on offense in the second half.
  • After a free throw from Burch, the Bengals were able to tie things up at 42-42.
  • After a jumper from Burch and a three-pointer from Parkinson, the Bengals were able to hold a five-point lead.
  • Alfred would comeback to tie things after a three-pointer from Casey Curran.
  • The Saxons attempted to pull away again but the Bengals stood strong and tied things up 57-57 with just over a minute remaining.
  • After Alfred took the lead on a free throw, the Bengals made one last push on offense, but couldn't sink the potential game-winning basket.
FOR THE FOES
  • Adam Enders led the Saxons with 17 points.
  • Curran chipped in 11 points and four rebounds.
UP NEXT
The Bengals return to action next weekend as they travel to Virginia to compete in the Christopher Newport Tournament.
