NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The Buffalo State men's basketball team dropped their opening game of the CNU/Holiday Inn Invitational against #2 Christopher Newport with a final of 90-54 at the Freeman Center.

- Matt Parkinson (Springfield Gardens, NY/John Browne) led the Bengals on offense with 11 points.
- Maley McCurty (Syracuse, NY/Nottingham) chipped in nine points of his own as well as three steals.
- Brendyn Cheng (Huntington, NY/Commack) led the team with nine rebounds and two assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Buffalo State came out of the gates hot with a quick 7-2 run.
- The Captains offense gained momentum of their own, scoring the final nine points to head into halftime leading 40-20.
- The Bengals attempted to chip away at the Captains lead, however, the Newport offense kept the pressure on to expand their lead.
- The Captains grew their lead to a game high 42 before cruising to the end.
FOR THE FOES
- Trey Barber led the Captains with 17 points and seven rebounds.
- Jahn Hines and Ethan Ward each had double-digit performances in the win as well.
