Slow Start Sinks Women's Hockey Against Oswego

OSWEGO, NY – Host Oswego scored seven goals in the first period, and cruised to a 9-0 victory over the Buffalo State women's hockey team in SUNYAC action on Saturday afternoon.

  • Chelsea Kingston (Sault Ste. Marie, ON/Soo Jr. Greyhounds) stopped 23 shots over the final 40 minutes of play, while allowing just two goals in her first collegiate playing experience.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Oswego opened the scoring under three minutes into the first period on a rebound in front of goal.
  • The Lakers netted a short-handed goal 6:33 into the period to double their advantage.
  • Oswego got three goals in the span of 2:08 just past the midway point of the frame, then a pair of goals in the final minute to take a 7-0 lead into the intermission.
  • Kingston turned aside nine shots in the second period for Buffalo State, while the Bengals came out stronger in a scoreless second frame.
  • Early in the third period, the Lakers netted another power-play goal, their third of the game to make it 8-0.
  • With just under four minutes remaining, Oswego completed the scoring after a shot deflected past Kingston.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Kensie Malone led Oswego with three goals, while 12 Lakers registered a point.
  • Hannah Skavnak stopped all 23 shots she faced for the shutout victory.
 
UP NEXT
Buffalo State is back at home on Tuesday for a non-conference contest against William Smith before the Thanksgiving break.
