Women's Basketball Drops Non-Conference Clash with Elmira

BUFFALO, NY – Visiting Elmira ended the game on a 17-6 run to take control in a 54-43 victory over the Buffalo State women's basketball team on Sunday afternoon at the Sports Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Elmira scored the first five points of the game early, and led 7-2 with three minutes remaining in the first quarter, as the Bengals were unable to get the offense started.
  • Baskets by Carey, Cornfield, and Stearns helped the Bengals close the quarter on a 6-3 run.
  • A 3-pointer by Stearns midway through the second quarter gave Buffalo State its first lead at 13-12.
  • The Soaring Eagles responded with a 13-5 run to close the half, including a jumper by Alleney Klunk in the final two seconds to give Elmira a 25-18 lead.
  • Buffalo State opened the third quarter on a 14-4 run, as a 3-pointer by Cornfield gave Buffalo State a 32-29 lead.
  • A technical foul on the Bengals gave Elmira a pair of free throws and the ball, which the Soaring Eagles capitalized with a four-point possession.
  • Trailing by four early in the fourth, Cornfield made back-to-back baskets to tie the score at 37-37.
  • Klunk knocked down a pair of 3-pointers, and scored the next ten points for Elmira.
  • A layup by Carey with under a minute remaining cut the Buffalo State deficit to four, but Elmira scored the final seven points on free throws to seal the victory.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Klunk finished the game with 21 points, while Laura Bogota contributed 19 points.
  • Nevaeh Winston grabbed a game-high 14 boards for Elmira.
