Men's Hockey Falls to No. 6 Geneseo

BUFFALO, NY – The Bengals took five penalties in the first period, and No. 6 Geneseo capitalized for a pair of power-play goals to take control in a 5-0 victory over the Buffalo State men's hockey team on Saturday evening at the Ice Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Bengals killed off a pair of penalties in the opening 10 minutes of the first period, before Geneseo finally broke through on its third chance with the man advantage to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Shortly after, Geneseo scored on a 4-on-3 to double the lead.
  • With just over a minute remaining in the period, the Knights tallied an even-strength goal to take a 3-0 lead into the intermission.
  • Doran made 16 saves in the opening period for Buffalo State.
  • The Knights made it 4-0 11:01 into the second period, on a wrist shot that went over Doran's shoulder and off the inside of the crossbar.
  • Penree was stopped on a breakaway attempt by a strong save with an opportunity to cut into the deficit.
  • Geneseo completed the scoring in the third period on a rebound in front of goal, and Geneseo goalie Jacob Torgner made a pair of saves on Kiriakov and Nick Stuckless (Orangeville, ON/Skidmore College) on breakaway attempts to complete the shutout.

FOR THE FOES
  • Tyson Gilmour had a goal and three assists for Geneseo, while Torgner stopped 30 shots for the Knights.
