Women's Hockey Falls to Cortland

BUFFALO, NY – Visiting Cortland scored four times in the final period to turn a 2-1 game into a 6-1 victory over the Buffalo State women's hockey team on Friday afternoon at the Ice Arena.

  • Liz Flores (Colleyville, TX/Dallas Stars Elite) scored the lone Buffalo State goal, her third of the season.
  • Grace Zwolak (Stoney Creek, ON/Niagara Falls Rapids) and Maddie Braun (East Aurora, NY/Hamburg Hawks) each recorded an assist.
  • Jessica Auge (Laingsburg, MI/Honeybaked Detroit) stopped 46 shots in goal for Buffalo State.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Cortland opened the scoring at 14:27 of the first period, as Kayla Persinger ripped a wrist shot from the slot past Auge.
  • The Red Dragons outshot Buffalo State 18-4 in the frame, but Auge came up huge multiple times to keep the deficit at one into the intermission.
  • The Bengals knotted the score 7:57 into the second period, as Flores tapped in a rebound in front of goal off an initial shot from the right point by Braun.
  • The Red Dragons regained the lead with under eight minutes left in the second period on an unassisted goal by Nicole Tulowiecki to take a 2-1 lead into the third period.
  • Just 2:07 into the final period, Cortland scored on a recound to take a 3-1 lead.
  • The Red Dragons scored twice in less than a minute near the midway point of the period, and wrapped up the scoring with a power-play goal with just over eight minutes left.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Persinger scored and added a pair of assists for Cortland.
  • Maggie Dickinson stopped 18 shots in goal for the win.
