BUFFALO, NY – Shevaughn Allen (Buffalo, NY/JFK) and
Nat Sawyer (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) from the indoor track and field team have been named Bengal Athletes of the Week for their respective performances at the NCAA Indoor Championships this past weekend.
Allen, a junior sociology major, finished seventh and earned First Team All-America honors in the triple jump with a leap of 14.83 meters. Allen's mark earned him two more jumps in the championship final where he secured his spot in the standings.
Sawyer, a freshman biology major, also earned First Team All-America honors for her fifth place finish in the 400-meter dash with a new school and SUNYAC record time of 55.96 seconds. Sawyer is the first SUNYAC runner to break the :56 second barrier as the previous mark was held by Madison Mulder of Geneseo with a time of 56.23. Sawyer also finished 14
th in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.84 seconds to earn Second Team All-America honors.
