Softball Extends Winning Streak to Three With a Pair of Victories

CLERMONT, FL – The Buffalo State softball team hammered out 27 combined hits in victories over Lawrence University (13-0), and Old Westbury (10-4) on Thursday, as the Bengals extended their winning streak to three games.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORES
 
  • Oriana Castello (Pearl River, NY/Nanuet) went 3-for-4, stole a base, and scored two runs.
  • Caitlyn Parsons (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) blasted her first home run of the year, and went 2-for-4 for the day.
  • Kaitlyn Schnitzer (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) pitched a complete-game shutout, and also went 2-for-4 with four RBI and three runs scored.
  • Sarah Congelosi (Montgomery, NY/Valley Central) stole three bases and scored two runs for the Bengals.
  • Cam O'Hara (Troy, NY/Catholic Central) and Sydney Shuta (Newburgh, NY/Marlboro) each had three hits, and Shuta scored four runs.
  • The Bengals hit .458 as a team for the day.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Castello doubled and scored on a Kayla Wolinski (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) RBI groundout, and Sydney Bielicki (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) scored on a wild pitch to give the Bengals a 2-0 lead.
  • Schnitzer singled, stole a base, and scored on a RBI groundout by Jenna Wlostowski (Lancaster, NY/Alden) to extend the lead to 3-0.
  • The Bengals struck for four runs in the third inning, highlighted by a two-run blast by Parsons to deep right field, and RBI hits by Shuta and Wlostowski.
  • Buffalo State added six more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, with Schnitzer hammering a three-run double to right field.
  • Schnitzer worked around a leadoff single in the top of the fifth inning to complete the shutout and earn the run-rule win for Buffalo State.

  • Janessa Gonzalez, Adrie Villa, and Mary Boyle had the hits for the Vikings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Old Westbury scored a run in the bottom of the first inning, but the Bengals responded with three runs in the second on a bunt single by Deme Kellogg (Gansevoort, NY/South Glens Falls) and ensuing misplay, as well as a RBI single by Bielicki. 
  • After the Panthers scored an unearned run in the second inning, Buffalo State scored a pair of runs on a single by Wolinski and RBI groundout by Bielicki.
  • Old Westbury scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth to pull within one run.
  • After O'Hara sent a RBI double past the shortstop, a throwing error by the left fielder allowed her to circle the bases to make it 7-4.
  • Congelosi sent an RBI single to right field in the sixth inning, and the Bengals tacked on a pair of runs in the seventh inning for the final 10-4 score.
  • Grace Albano (N. Tonawanda, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) pitched the final four innings to earn the save after Madison Lucas (Oakdale, PA/West Allegheny) pitched the first three innings for her third win of the year.
FOR THE FOES
  • Hillary Bennett had a hit and two RBI for the Panthers.
