BUFFALO, NY – Olivia Kowalik (Amherst, NY/Amherst) hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning of game two, as the Buffalo State softball team split a pair of tightly contested non-conference games against Alfred University on Wednesday afternoon.
INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORES
- Sydney Bielicki (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) stayed hot at the plate, going 4-for-7 to raise her season batting average to .521. She also drove in four runs and scored two runs.
- Sarah Congelosi (Montgomery, NY/Valley Central) had three hits, including a pair of doubles, and scored three runs.
- Kowalik had two hits and scored two runs.
- Kayla Wolinski (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) went 3-for-8
- Sydney Shuta (Newburgh, NY/Marlboro) had a pair of doubles and drove in two runs.
- Jenna Wlostowski (Lancaster, NY/Alden) and Erin Paolilli (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) each had two hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Saxons started the scoring with a pair of runs in the top of the third inning, then scored again in the top of the fourth to make it 3-0.
- The Bengals erupted for six runs in the bottom of the fourth, as Paolilli and Shuta each drove in one run, and Congelosi and Bielicki drove in two runs each.
- The Saxons scored a run in the fifth, and two in the sixth to tie the score, including a perfectly-executed safety squeeze to tie the score at 6-6.
- The Bengals struck for two more runs in the bottom of the sixth, as Shuta doubled to deep center to drive in a run, and Wlostowski followed with an RBI single through the right side.
- The Saxons once again equalized, scoring the tying run on a wild pitch after an RBI triple by Isabella Carillo.
- After the first two Bengals were retired in the bottom of the seventh, Kowalik hammered a deep fly ball that cleared the center field fence over the outstretched glove of the center fielder for the game winner.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Alfred struck for a pair of runs in the first inning, but the Bengals responded with two runs of their own thanks to an RBI fielder's choice by Wolinski and an RBI single by Caitlyn Parsons (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas)
- The Saxons scored a pair of runs in the second on a sun-aided double by Mya Wells to center field.
- Alfred tacked on another run in the top of the third inning to make the score 5-2.
- Parsons drove in another run for the Bengals in the bottom of the third to reduce the deficit.
- Bielicki tied the score with a two-run single in the fourth inning.
- Alfred pushed across an unearned run in the fifth inning, and Buffalo State went down in order in its final three innings at bat.
FOR THE FOES
- Allison O'Toole went 5-for-5 over the doubleheader to lead the Saxons.
