PLATTSBURGH, NY – The Buffalo State softball team came out swinging, dealing damage to the Plattsburgh pitching staff to the tune of 18 runs in a doubleheader sweep over the Cardinals on Friday evening.
INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORES
- Jenna Wlostowski (Lancaster, NY/Alden) was 5-for-6 with two RBIs and three runs scored.
- Caitlyn Parsons hammered five hits, including three doubles, while driving in three runs. Parsons reached 100 career hits in just her third season at Buffalo State.
- Kayla Wolinski (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) had five hits, drove in four runs, and scored a pair of runs.
- Kaitlyn Schnitzer (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) recorded the save in game one, and earned the win with a complete game in game two. Schnitzer allowed just four earned runs in 8.2 innings pitched.
- Madison Lucas (Oakdale, PA/West Allegheny) allowed three earned runs over 5.1 inning for her 11th victory of the season.
- Oriana Castello (Pearl River, NY/Nanuet) drove in three runs and scored three runs.
- Sarah Congelosi (Montgomery, NY/Valley Central) had three hits and stole four bases, while Olivia Kowalik (Amherst, NY/Amherst) had a pair of hits and three steals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first five batters of the game reached base safely for the Bengals, as Buffalo State scored three runs on RBI hits by Wolinski and Parsons.
- After the Cardinals struck for a pair of runs in the bottom of the second, Buffalo State padded its lead with four runs in the top of the fourth.
- After Kruse, Kellogg, and Wlostowski reached base, Castello slashed a single into center to drive in a run. Wolinski followed with a two-run single, and Parsons lined a single to drive in another run.
- Wolinski drove in another run in the sixth inning on an RBI double to left center to make it 8-2.
- The Cardinals responded with five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, taking advantage of two Buffalo State errors to make it 8-7.
- With runners on the corners and one out, Schnitzer came on to retire the final two batters in the sixth, and retired the side in order in the seventh to secure the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- An RBI double to shallow left field by Parsons got the Bengals on the board first in the top of the first inning.
- Plattsburgh took advantage of two Bengals' errors, scoring three unearned runs in the bottom of the first.
- Buffalo State immediately responded to tie the score, as Sydney Shuta (Newburgh, NY/Marlboro) and Kowalik manufactured a run on the basepaths in a rundown play, then Wlostowski's single scored Shuta from second base.
- Kowalik's RBI single up the middle gave the Bengals a 4-3 lead in the third inning.
- A two-run double by Danielle Torres gave the Cardinals a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the third.
- Buffalo State struck for three runs in the fourth on a two-run triple by Castello, and a sacrifice fly by Sydney Bielicki (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park).
- The Cardinals were able to tie the score at 7-7 on Kristina Maggiacomo's double in the bottom of the sixth.
- Parsons got the Bengals' three-run rally going in the seventh inning with a leadoff double to left field. Congelosi and Kowalik followed with back-to-back singles, and Wlostowski's sacrifice fly made it 10-7.
- The Cardinals were able to scratch across an unearned run in the bottom half, before Schnitzer sealed the victory that sends the Bengals into a tie atop the SUNYAC leaderboard.

- Maggiacomo had three hits and two RBIs for the Cardinals in the second game.
