Softball Heads to North Country for Pair of SUNYAC Doubleheaders

Bengals face Plattsburgh Friday, Potsdam Saturday

BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo State softball team returns to SUNYAC action this weekend, hitting the road for a trip to the North Country, facing Plattsburgh on Friday, and Potsdam on Saturday.

EYES ON THE BENGALS
  • Buffalo State enters the weekend with a 16-8 overall record (5-1 SUNYAC) after a split of a non-conference doubleheader against Alfred on Wednesday afternoon. Olivia Kowalik (Amherst, NY/Amherst) hammered a walk-off home run in the second game to lift the Bengals to victory.
  • The Bengals are leading the SUNYAC in multiple offensive categories this season: batting average (.365), runs (163), doubles (44), RBIs (142), on-base percentage (.419), and slugging percentage (.502).
  • Deme Kellogg (Gansevoort, NY/South Glens Falls) has thrown out seven runners attempting to steal this season, tied for the most in the SUNYAC.
  • Sydney Bielicki (Orchard Park, NY/Orchard Park) leads the conference, and is 10th nationally, with a .521 batting average this season.
  • Sydney Shuta (Newburgh, NY/Marlboro) is tied atop the conference leaderboard, and ranked 43rd in the country, with three sacrifice flies.
 
A BIRD'S-EYE VIEW OF THE CARDINALS
  • Plattsburgh sports a 16-4 overall record (5-1 SUNYAC), and riding a three-game winning streak after a doubleheader sweep of Canton on Wednesday afternoon.
  • The Cardinals are led by Claire Palmer's .476 batting average, third best in the SUNYAC.
  • Kristina Maggiacomo leads Plattsburgh with a 2.55 ERA and, while Julia Golino has pitched to a 2.57 ERA. Maggiacomo's 71 strikeouts are also the third-highest total in the SUNYAC.  
 
BREAKING DOWN THE BEARS
  • Potsdam is 6-18 overall (2-4 SUNYAC) prior to a SUNYAC doubleheader against Fredonia on Friday.
  • The Bears have the most triples in the SUNYAC with 14, led individually by Alexa Abbatantuono's four triples.
  • Potsdam is one of just two teams in the conference without a home run this year.
 
THE HISTORY
  • Buffalo State holds a 26-23 edge over Plattsburgh since 2000, and the Bengals will look to avenge a loss to the Cardinals in the final game of last season.
  • The Bengals hold a 39-1 advantage over Potsdam all time, including victories in 20 consecutive meetings dating back to the 2011 season.
