NEW PALTZ, NY – The Buffalo State softball team dropped their opening game of the SUNYAC Tournament to the Geneseo Knights by a final score of 3-0. The team will look to bounce-back and stay alive in the tournament tomorrow morning.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE

• Kayla Wolinski (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) tallied two hits for the Bengals.
• Oriana Castello (Pearl River, NY/Nanuet), Sarah Congelosi (Montgomery, NY/Valley Central), and Jenna Wlostowski (Lancaster, NY/Alden) each registered a hit for the Bengals.
• Madison Lucas (Oakdale, PA/West Allegheny) pitched 4 and 1/3 innings allowing three runs on four hits.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Knights offense got started early as they cashed in two runs in the bottom of the first following a two-run single from Samantha Martz.
• Lucas and Elizabeth Eberhardt would be locked in a classic pitchers' duel until the Knights struck again in the fifth inning.
• Buffalo State got a runner to third in the top of the inning but were unable to cash in.
• Rebecca Schwartz laced an RBI single to center to put the Knights up 3-0 in the bottom of the fifth.
• The Bengals rallied in their last chance at the plate but were unable to get any runs across.

 
FOR THE FOES

• Eberhardt allowed five hits with six strikeouts to earn the complete game shutout.
• Schwartz had two hits and two RBIs to lead the Knights on offense.

The Bengals will look to stay alive tomorrow as they take on the top-seed New Paltz Hawks at 10:00 am.
