BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo State women's volleyball team swept the Alfred University Saxons and fell to Covenant College to close out the Bengal Challenge Tournament this afternoon in the Buffalo State Sports Arena.
GAME ONE BASICS

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
- Samantha Coakley (Lockport, NY/Lockport), Erin Mergler (Amherst, NY/Williamsville North), and Ella Wittman (Cheektowaga, NY/Springville Griffith) each tallied nine kills in the win.
- Riley Domin (Getzville, NY/Williamsville South) dished out 19 assists while Wittman and Karlie Shaffer (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown East) each had 10 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Buffalo State jumped out quickly to a 3-0 lead on the Saxons.
- Shortly after, the Saxons rallied back to even the score 5-5.
- The Bengals would then pounce and go on a 13-1 run and later cruise to a dominate the first set.
- Alfred came back in the second set opening with a 4-0 start.
- After Mergler knotted the set at 7-7, Buffalo State would pounce again and go on a 9-0 run to open their first lead.
- The Saxons attempted to claw back into the action with a late rally but fell short after Wittman secured the set with a kill from Shaffer.
- Buffalo State dominated again in the final set and finished off the tournament with an impressive 3-0 victory.
FOR THE FOES
- Taylor Malone had a match-high 16 kills.
- Madalynn McGowan tallied 23 digs while Delaney Sims dished out 25 assists.

- Wittman led the Bengals with seven kills in the match.
- Shaffer dished out a team-high 12 assists and Adi Vergara (Rio Grande, Puerto Rico) led the way with 7 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The opening set was a back-and-forth affair, and the two teams were tied 6-6.
- The Scots rallied off six of seven points and would never lose their led the rest of the set.
- Buffalo State came out firing with a 4-0 start to the second set.
- Covenant would rally back and go on 6-1 run.
- The Scots continued back-and-forth with the Bengals before scoring the last six points to secure the set.
- Covenant dominated the final set seeing their lead go to a match-high 13.
FOR THE FOES
- Three Scots tallied 10 kills in the win.
- Rachel Bartlett tallied 31 assists and a team-high 12 digs.
