Women's Volleyball Wins in Four Sets over Nazareth

ROCHESTER, NY – Samantha Coakley (Lockport, NY/Lockport) recorded 12 kills and a .500 hitting percentage to lead the Buffalo State women's volleyball team to a four-set victory over Nazareth in non-conference action on Wednesday evening.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
  • Coakley's 12 kills came on just 20 attempts, while only having two attack errors.
  • Eden Harrison (Eldersburg, MD/Century) also chipped in nine kills.
  • Adi Vergara (Rio Grande, Puerto Rico/Kingdom Christian) led Buffalo State defensively with 13 digs.
  • Karlie Shaffer (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown East) has 18 assists, while Riley Domin (Getzville, NY/Williamsville South) had 15 assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Buffalo State fell behind early in the first set, but responded with a 15-3 run to turn a 7-4 deficit into a commanding 19-10 lead, which allowed the Bengals to cruise to a victory.
  • Tied at 18-18 in the second set, the Bengals got a pair of service aces and a kill by Ella Wittman (Cheektowaga, NY/Springville Griffith) and a kill by Erin Mergler (Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) as part of a six-point run. Two plays later, Buffalo State won the set on a bad set by Nazareth.
  • The Golden Flyers won the final four points of the third set to force a fourth set.
  • Leading 12-10 in the fourth set, the Bengals had a 5-1 run thanks to two kills by Coakley, a kill by Harrison, and a combo block by the duo to take a 17-11 lead.
  • Buffalo State then closed the set on a 7-1 run to secure the victory.
FOR THE FOES
  • Tessa Grover had 14 kills to lead Nazareth, while Jenna Mattison had 19 digs.
