Men's Soccer Falls 2-0 to New Paltz

BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo State men's soccer team dropped its SUNYAC Home Opener on Saturday afternoon, falling to New Paltz by a score of 2-0 on Coyer Field.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
  • JB Almontaser (Lackawanna, NY/Lackawanna) and Manu Prieto (Cascais, Portugal/Salesianos Do Estoril) each recorded a pair of shots on target for the Bengals.
  • Shae Wirt (Overland Park, KS/St. Thomas Aquinas) made five saves in goal.
  • Buffalo State held a 10-5 advantage in corner kicks in the contest.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Bengals had a great scoring chance in the opening minutes, but Prieto's header off a cross from the right side from Riley Quinn (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) rang off the inside of the left post.
  • Minutes later, Prieto and Almontaser each had shots deflected over the crossbar by the Hawks' goalkeeper Christian Micheli.
  • New Paltz struck first just before the half hour mark, as Joseph DiPreta slotted home a penalty kick to the bottom right corner of the net after a foul in the penalty area.
  • The Hawks held the 1-0 advantage into halftime.
  • New Paltz doubled its advantage only three minutes into the second half, as Alex Wyant got on the end of a free kick from David Acker, redirecting a header past a diving Wirt into the right corner of the net.
  • Buffalo State pressed for a goal, but another great chance in the 86th minute by Aladin Ali (Rochester, NY/East Irondequoit) was stopped by a kick save by Micheli.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Micheli turned aside seven shots on target for the shutout in goal.
 
UP NEXT
The Bengals are back at home on Wednesday, hosting Fredonia in a "Battle by the Lake" matchup at 7 pm.
