Men's Soccer Strikes Late In SUNYAC Win Over Fredonia

BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo State men's soccer team earned a huge SUNYAC win over the Fredonia Blue Devils this evening with a final score of 2-0 on Coyer Field.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
  • Diego Rivera (Hudson, NY/Cairo Durham) and Joseph Desmonie (Valatie, NY/Icabod Crane) each scored for Buffalo State.
  • Frank Colella (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) picked up an assist.
  • Max Shoemaker (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Wheatfield) made three saves to earn the shutout.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both sides started slow on offense as they combined for just eight shots in the first half.
  • The Bengals best chance came late in the first half as Rivera's bicycle kick was saved just below the post from Fredonia.
  • Rivera got his opportunity early in the second half as he picked up a loose ball and was able to find the back of the net for his team-leading seventh goal of the season.
  • The game started to get physical as the Bengals found themselves with two yellow card.
  • Fredonia's best chance came off a penalty kick which went right to Shoemaker for the clutch save.
  • Desmonie scored near the end of regulation as he was able to steal the ball from Fredonia and find himself with a breakaway opportunity.
  • The Bengals defense held strong the rest of the way to secure the team's first SUNYAC win of the season.
  • Overall, Buffalo State outshot Fredonia 17-8.
FOR THE FOES
  • Tanner Stutzman made six saves in goal for Fredonia.
  • Milkias Aregawi and Kaleb Steward each had two shots on goal for the Blue Devils.
UP NEXT
The Bengals are back in action Saturday as they travel to #24 Cortland to battle the Red Dragons at 1:00 pm.
