Prieto Sets Single Season Assist Record As #24 Men's Soccer Takes Down Oswego

BUFFALO, NY – Manu Prieto (Cascais, Portugal/Salesianos Do Estoril) set the Buffalo State men's soccer program record with his 14th assist of the season as the #24 Bengals took down the Oswego State Lakers tonight with a final score of 5-3 on Coyer Field.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
  • Prieto tallied four total assists to set the program mark. The previous record was 13 assists set by Theo Pencic in 2021 and Scott Martin in 1999.
  • Diego Rivera (East Meadow, NY/Cairo Durham) tallied his second hat trick of the season to pace the Bengals offense.
  • Aney Djadou (Buffalo, NY/Amherst) tallied a pair of goals for his first career multi-goal performance.
  • Shae Wirt (Overland Park, KS/St. Thomas Aquinas) made eight saves in goal.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Buffalo State came out of the gates hot as Djadou scored within the first two minutes of action. The game would then be delayed shortly after for nearly an hour due to lightning.
  • Coming out of the break, Rivera kept the Bengals offensive momentum going after a beautiful downfield pass from Salvador Gomes (Lisbon, Portugal/Colegio de S. Thomas).
  • Prieto found himself with two more assists as Rivera and Djadou each tallied their second goals of the game late in the half.
  • Seconds before time expired in the first half, Chris Smith got the Lakers on the board scoring on a penalty kick opportunity.
  • Rivera finished his third career hat trick shortly after the start of the second half to give the Bengals a 5-1 lead.
  • Oswego began to put pressure on the offensive side of the ball, scoring a pair of goals within ten minutes to get back into the action.
  • The Lakers continued to push but couldn't not get any more results as the Bengals defense held strong to secure the win.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Matthew Sturman had a pair of goals for the Lakers.
  • Kyle Rose made seven saves in net in the effort.
