Women’s Volleyball Handles Business on the Road, Defeating the Roos

CANTON, NY – The Buffalo State women's volleyball team took care of business and defeated the SUNY Canton Kangroos 3-1, getting back on track after suffering their first SUNYAC loss of the season.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
  • Ella Wittman (Cheektowaga, NY/Springville-Griffith) led the Bengals with 21 kills, while adding 12 digs and three blocks. Samantha Coakley (Lockport, NY/Lockport) followed suit with ten kills, seven aces and ten digs.
  • April Jakubowski (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) led the Bengals with 30 assists, while Delaney McCarthy helped contribute with five blocks.
  • Also contributing for the Bengals was Karlie Shaffer (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown East) with 17 assists and three aces, as well as Adi Vergara (Rio Grande, Puerto Rico/Kingdom Christian) with 14 digs and two aces.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Coming off a tough emotional loss last Saturday afternoon, the Bengals returned to action on the road in Canton. The game opened with a Roos run of four-straight points before the Bengals would answer of their own rally of four straight to bring the score to 5-5. As play continued, the Bengals would knock the rust off, going on several rallies before finishing the 1st set in a 25-19.
  • In the second set, the Bengals would go down again early, with the Roos running four straight points. While the Bengals answered with several three-point rallies, the Roos stole the momentum under the Bengals shoes and took the second set in a 25-23 victory.
  • The third and fourth set saw the Bengals return to the dominating team that they displayed throughout the season. In the last two sets of the game, the Bengals would go on five-straight point rallies, with their defense keeping the Roos off the board until the game was out of hand. This led the Bengals to a 25-15 win in the third set, and a 25-14 win to close out this road matchup against the SUNY Canton Kangaroos.
FOR THE FOES
  • Sarah Balcom led the Roos with nine kills while being credited for two assists.
  • Emerson Coulter led with 19 digs, while Sammie Frank led with 27 assists.
UP NEXT
The Bengals will remain on the road for their final SUNYAC matchup of the season, with a matchup against the Oswego State Lakers, Saturday, November 2nd at 3:00 P.M.
