Women’s Basketball Falls on the Road in Season Opener

BROCKPORT, NY – The Buffalo State women's basketball team dropped their first game of the 2024-25 season, 78-44, at the hands of their I-90 rival, SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
  • Maddy Stearns (Clarence, NY/Clarence) led all scorers with 18 points on the night. 
  • Adiya Jones (Washington, DC/McKinley Technology) cleaned up the boards for the Bengals, leading both teams with 15 rebounds. Mya Brown (Buffalo, NY/Frontier) also contributed with 11 rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Opening the 2024-25 season, the Bengals faced the tough task of battling the Golden Eagles on the road. As the game began, the Bengals were able to get on the board early, but the Golden Eagles responded quickly, going on 17-0 run, and taking the first quarter with a 23-4 lead.
  • In the second quarter, the Bengals looked to chip into the Golden Eagles lead with a strong quarter by Stearns to keep the Bengals in the game. As the Bengals fought, the Golden Eagles kept up the pace, entering halftime with a convincing 50-21 lead.
  • In the third and fourth quarter, the Bengals did their best to get back into the game, but the lead was too much to chip into…as the Golden Eagles pulled away and gave the Bengals their first loss of the season.
FOR THE FOES
  • Stephanie Jean-Baptiste led the Golden Eagles with 14 points.  
  • Claire Turner and Cam Tooley tied for eight rebounds in the game.

The Bengals will remain on the road as they travel to Elmira College, Saturday, November 16th at 2:00 P.M.
