ELMIRA, NY – The Buffalo State women's basketball team picked up their first win of the 2024-25 season, taking down the Elmira College Soaring Eagles, 66-57.

- Adiya Jones (Washington, DC/McKinley Technology) led all scorers today with 24 points, going 9-14 from the field, 2-2 from the three-point arc, 4-4 from the free throw line, while also pulling down nine rebounds. Maddy Stearns (Clarence, NY/Clarence) chipped in with 14 points and five assists.
- Chloe Hanson (Skaneateles, NY/Moravia) led the Bengals with 11 rebounds, with Stearns grabbing six rebounds and tallying three steals.
- The Bengals shot 41.8% from the floor, while shooting 70.0% from the free-throw line.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a tough loss by Brockport, the Bengals were looking for an answer and a groove to settle in. In the first quarter, both team traded baskets before the Bengals settled their feet and going on a 10-0 run late and entering the second quarter with a 25-14 lead.
- In the second quarter, the Bengals baskets came at a premium for both teams, but credit to the Bengals defense at keeping the Soaring Eagles off the board as much as they could, even as their lead shrunk. Heading into halftime, the Bengals maintained a six-point lead with momentum to be carried in the second half.
- Coming out of halftime, the Soaring Eagles would steal the Bengals momentum…shrinking the Bengals lead little by little. As the Bengals scored, so would the Soaring Eagles, bringing this matchup to a tie at 48 entering the fourth quarter.
- The fourth quarter saw the Bengals activate their 'clutch gene', going on another 10-0 run, slowly pulling away from the Soaring Eagles. With a lead that extended to 13-points, the Bengals were able to maintain their tight defensive play and walk out of this game securing their first win of the season.

- Laura Bogota led the Soaring Eagles in scoring with 20 points.
- D'Asia Jones led the Soaring Eagles with seven rebounds, while Taylor Jung and Bogota chipping in with four assists each.
