Men's Hockey Falls To St. Anselm In Overtime

BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo State men's hockey team fell in overtime to the St. Anselm Hawks, 4-3, in the championship game of the Buffalo State Bengals Classic tonight at the Ice Arena.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
  • Ethan Perrault (Tipp City, OH/Johnstown Tomahawks), Joonas Linnavuori (Helsinki, Finland/Wilkes Barre-Scranton Knights), and Sutton Murray (Rochester Hills, MI/Pembroke Lumber Kings) each scored their first collegiate goals in the effort.
  • Joe Glamos (Baldwinsville, NY/New Jersey Titans), Jason Kwestel (Rockaway, NJ/Valley Wildcats), Jake Meure (Fremont, CA/Ogden Mustangs), and Aiden Dufault (Narol, NB/Amherst Ramblers) each picked up an assist.
  • Meure also led the team with six shots in the matchup.
  • In goal, Marcus Cumberworth (Surrey, BC/Olds Grizzlys) made 31 saves for the Bengals.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Buffalo State opened the scoring as Perrault found the back of the net to give the Bengals the early lead.
  • St. Anselm responded quickly as Cam Collins scored less than two minutes late.
  • With seconds to go in the second period, Luke Mix scored to give the Hawks a 2-1 lead heading into the final 20 minutes of action.
  • The Bengals came out ready in the third period and Linnavuori and Murray scored within two minutes of each other to tie the game and give the Bengals the lead.
  • The Hawks pulled their goalie with just over a minute to go and shortly after scored the game-tying goal to force overtime.
  • St. Anselm scored less than one minute into overtime to give the Hawks the tournament win.
  • Overall, the Hawks narrowly outshot the Bengals 35-29.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Mark Blaney scored the game winning goal in overtime for the Hawks.
  • Cam Carroll made 26 saves in net.
 
UP NEXT
The Bengals will play open conference play on Friday, November 15 as they will travel to Morrisville to battle the Mustangs at 7:00 pm.
