HOW IT HAPPENED
- Completing their weekend as hosts at the Ice Arena, the Bengals entered this matchup against the Plattsburgh State Cardinals with high energy, coming off a big win Friday night. As the first period began, the intensity between these two teams was felt. After a strong offense attack from the Bengals, the Cardinals would answer with a goal in the 10th minute of play to take an early lead, but the Bengals didn't back down, tying up the game on the power-play on a Powell goal deflection. However, the Cardinals would respond with another goal as the first period neared its finish, heading into the first intermission up 2-1. The Bengals outshot the Cardinals, eight to seven in the first period.
- In the second period, the intensity reached a boiling point, as both teams would rack up numerous hard-hits and penalties. While each team looked to take advantage of the other's mistake, neither team were able to hit the back of the net as the second intermission finished with a 2-1 lead to the Cardinals favor. The Cardinals outshot the Bengals six to two in the second period.
- In the third period, the Bengals played shorthanded for a good portion of the period but fought as hard as they could. But too little, too late as the Cardinals were finally able to take advantage of the mistakes by the Bengals, netting a power-play goal of their own, before sealing the game with an empty-net goal to down the Bengals. The Bengals were outshot by the Cardinals 14 to five in the third period.
