HOW IT HAPPENED
  • With three games remaining before the winter break, the Bengals looked to pick up a win against a solid New Paltz Hawks team on the road. However, the first quarter couldn't have gone any worse for the Bengals, as the Hawks controlled the quarter, taking a 16-point lead after the first quarter horn blew. The Bengals shot 20.0% in the quarter.
  • The second quarter saw the Red Dragons pick up on their lead, going up as much as 17 points saw a little more resiliency from the Bengals, as baskets started to go in and they chipped away at the Hawks lead. At the halfway mark of the quarter, the Bengals brought their deficit to only nine-points, but a strong finish from the Hawks pushed them to halftime with a 14-point lead. The Bengals shot 31.2% from the floor in the quarter.
  • Coming out of halftime, the Bengals started off hot, going on a 6-0 run and bringing this game within arms-reach. As the Hawks would attempt to go back up, the Bengals would fight back and bring this game within a point differential towards the end of the quarter. But once again, the Hawks tough defense forced the Bengals into foul trouble, giving the Hawks a 6-0 run to finish the third quarter up by eight-points. The Bengals shot 66.6% from the floor in the quarter.
  • In the fourth quarter, things couldn't have gone worse for the Bengals…as the Hawks got hot from the three-point arc, making seven threes in the quarter that would propel them over the finish line and take down the Bengals. The Bengals shot 40.0% from the floor in the quarter.
FOR THE FOES
  • Sophia Bonnell led all scorers with 21 points. Abby Korzekwinski and Julia Sabatino pulled down 11 rebounds each for the Hawks.
