HAMBURG, NY – The Buffalo State softball team earned a sweep over Potsdam on Saturday afternoon, winning game one by a score of 4-2, before taking a convincing 8-0 win in the second game. Due to unplayable field conditions at the Softball Field, the games were held at Frontier High School.
GAME TWO BASICS

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
- Sarah Congelosi (Montgomery, NY/Valley Central) and Caitlyn Parsons (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) each went 2-for-3, with Congelosi scoring three runs for the Bengals and Parsons scoring once and adding an RBI.
- Katie Pyszczek (Elma, NY/St. Mary's of Lancaster) was 2-for-2 and drove in two runs.
- Madison Lucas (Oakdale, PA/West Allegheny) threw a shutout on the rubber, striking out seven and allowing just two hits. She also added two hits and a walk in three plate appearances.
- Kenzie Scott (Greene, NY/Greene) was 1-for-2 with a three-run inside-the-park-homer and three RBIs.
- Every Buffalo State starter had at least one hit.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bengals took advantage of a pair of Potsdam errors in the first inning to go ahead 1-0, with Pyszczek driving in Congelosi with a single to center field.
- The Bengals tacked on another run in the third on Parsons' single to left in between the left fielder and shortstop.
- Buffalo State exploded for six runs in the fourth inning, as Kaitlyn Schnitzer (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) pounded a double down the left field line to get things started.
- Two batters later, Scott drove a ball to deep left center that went over the fence and hit the netting before bouncing back into play. The umpires ruled that the ball was still in play, but Scott still rounded the bases for a three-run home run after the centerfielder was injured on the play.
- Buffalo State then scored three more runs in the inning, with Congelosi scoring on an error, Pyszczek delivering a sacrifice fly, Schnitzer grounding out to drive in a run.

- Anna Grottola and Lexie Cottrill each had a hit for Potsdam.

- Lexi Quagliana (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) had a hit and drove in three runs.
- Izzy Pezdek (Lancaster, NY/Grand Island) picked up her fifth win of the year on the mound, pitching a complete game and striking out a career-high ten batters.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Potsdam struck first with three hits and a walk to the first five batters, and threatened to do even more damage with the bases loaded and only one out. Grace Albano (N. Tonawanda, NY/Niagara Wheatfield) then made a catch on a fly ball in foul territory in left field, and unleashed a laser home to turn a double play and end the threat.
- Congelosi singled to lead off the bottom of the first and came home on Pyszczek's double down the left field line to tie the score at 1-1.
- Buffalo State took advantage of a dropped pop-up by the Bears, scoring a run on Quagliana's sacrifice fly to right field.
- Potsdam tied the score on a wild pitch in the top of the fifth inning.
- After Pyszczek and Parsons singled to start the bottom of the fifth inning, Quagliana drove in two runs with a single to right center to give Buffalo State the lead again.
- After regaining the lead, Pezdek retired the side in order the final two innings to secure the victory.
FOR THE FOES
- Kaylee LaForest drove in a run for Potsdam and had two hits, while Kiki Lovejoy also had two hits, and scored a run.

The Bengals are back in action tomorrow at 12 pm and 2 pm against Plattsburgh, with the games being played at The Sports Complex at Color Park.
