BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo State softball team earned a pair of victories on Friday afternoon over Oswego, 8-6 in game one and 12-4 in game two, as the Bengals pushed their winning streak to six games.
GAME TWO BASICS

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
- Sam Schafer (Depew, NY/Lancaster) went 3-for-3, driving in two runs and scoring two runs as well.
- Caitlyn Parsons (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas), Sarah Congelosi (Montgomery, NY/Valley Central), Mya Hurley (Amherst, NY/Amherst), and Madison Lucas (Oakdale, PA/West Allegheny) each had two hits for Buffalo State. Congelosi and Hurley also drove in two runs apiece.
- Lucas earned her fifth win of the year on the mound, allowing just four runs.
- Izzy Pezdek (Lancaster, NY/Grand Island) picked up her first collegiate save, tossing the final 1.1 innings with four strikeouts and only one hit allowed.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bengals struck for four runs in the first inning, as Hurley, Lucas, and Schafer each had run-scoring hits. Kaitlyn Schnitzer (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) also drove in a run with a bases loaded walk.
- Buffalo State added three runs in the third inning on a RBI single by Congelosi, sandwiched around RBI groundouts by Hurley and Grace Albano (N. Tonawanda, NY/Niagara Wheatfield).
- The Lakers struck for four runs in the fourth inning, and put the potential-tying run at the plate, before Pezdek entered in relief to end the threat with a strikeout.
- After Samantha Kelly (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East) led off the fifth inning with a single, Albano and Schafer had back-to-back doubles to make it 9-4.
- The Bengals then scored three more runs in the inning, taking advantage of an Oswego error, and Lexi Quagliana (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) drove in the final run to secure the run-rule victory.

- Mackenzie Carlson went 3-for-3 for Oswego.

- Hurley and Albano each went 2-for-3, with Hurley hitting a homer and a double, driving in two runs and scoring two more, while Albano drove in one run and scored a run as well.
- Congelosi went 1-for-1 with a triple, walked twice, drove in two runs, stole two bases, and scored two runs.
- Emma Hooftallen (Round Hill, VA/Woodgrove) pitched 5.2 innings of relief, allowing just two hits and one unearned run while striking out five batters.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lakers took advantage of a pair of Buffalo State errors in the first inning to score a pair of unearned runs and lead 2-0.
- Buffalo State responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning, highlighted by Hurley's two-run homer to left field to make it 4-2.
- Oswego then scored three runs in the second, including another unearned run, to back in front by a 5-4 score.
- The scored stayed that way until the bottom of the fourth inning, when Albano led off with a single, and scored on Congelosi's triple to right center. Kenzie Scott (Greene, NY/Greene) followed with a sacrifice fly to give the Bengals a 6-5 lead.
- After Oswego tied the score with an unearned run in the fifth inning, Albano sent an RBI single to right field, and Congelosi drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to regain Buffalo State's lead at 8-6.
- Hooftallen allowed just one hit over the final two innings to squash any hopes of a comeback for Oswego and secure the victory.
FOR THE FOES
- Grace DiPalma had a pair of hits and scored a run for Oswego.
