Softball Set for Three Doubleheaders in Four Days

BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo State softball begins a packed week on action today, with three doubleheaders on the road in the next four days. Buffalo State begins with a non-conference doubleheader at Penn State Behrend at 3 pm, before returning to SUNYAC action on Friday at New Paltz and Saturday at Oneota.

EYES ON THE BENGALS
  • Buffalo State enters play with a 15-12 record (8-4 SUNYAC) after a doubleheader sweep of Nazareth on Sunday.
  • Mya Hurley (Amherst, NY/Amherst) enters the week on tear, batting .444 with a slugging percentage of .722 with a home run, six RBIs and five runs scored in the last six games.
  • Emma Hooftallen (Round Hill, VA/Woodgrove) has a 0.37 ERA on the season, allowing just one earned run in 19.0 innings.

  • Behrend is led at the plate by two batters hitting over .400 on the year: Meghan Petitte (.442) and Maria Jones (.410). The duo have also combined for 39 extra-base hits and 18 stolen bases.
  • In 14 games at home, the Lions are batting .364 as a team, compared to a .300 average in road contests and a .292 average in neutral games.
 
A BIRD'S-EYE VIEW OF THE HAWKS
  • New Paltz is off to a strong start this season, with a 24-4 overall record (10-0 SUNYAC). Last season's regular season conference champion, the Hawks are on a 15-game winning streak heading into Friday.
  • Jaycee Filancia enters the weekend riding an 11-game hitting streak, and leads the Hawks with a .435 batting average this season.
  • The pitching staff returns the top two starters from last year in SUNYAC Pitcher of the Year Lindsay Roman and Sydney Waldon. Roman is 11-3 with a 1.32 ERA and four shutouts, while Waldon sports a 2.20 ERA with 12-1 record.
 
RESEARCHING THE RED DRAGONS
  • Oneonta is 14-14 overall (6-4 SUNYAC) heading into a doubleheader against Fredonia on Friday.
  • Returning first team All-SUNYAC selection Delaney Haley has paced the Red Dragons on offense, batting .402, and leads the conference with 25 stolen bases.
  • Another first team All-SUNYAC selection from last year in Julia Serena is off to a strong start, leading the conference with seven home runs and 34 RBIs, and batting .371.
 
THE HISTORY
  • Buffalo State is 20-9 since 1989 against Penn State Behrend, and the teams split a doubleheader in the last meeting of the squads in 2015.
  • The Bengals are 36-14 against the Hawks since 1989, and won two of the three meetings in 2023. Buffalo State defeated New Paltz 2-0 in eight innings at the SUNYAC Tournament last year.
  • Buffalo State is 33-24 against Oneonta since '89. Although the Red Dragons swept the Bengals in a regular-season doubleheader, Buffalo State got the best of Oneonta at the SUNYAC Tournament, winning 6-3 to knock the Red Dragons out of the double-elimination championships.
