Softball Drops Doubleheader to New Paltz

NEW PALTZ, NY – The Buffalo State softball team dropped a pair of doubleheaders on the road to New Paltz on Friday night, suffering a 2-0 defeat in game one and a 6-0 loss in game two.
 
GAME ONE BASICS

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
  • Sarah Congelosi (Montgomery, NY/Valley Central) went 2-for-3 for the Bengals.
  • Caitlyn Parsons (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) had the other Buffalo State hit.
  • Izzy Pezdek (Lancaster, NY/Grand Island) pitched a complete game on the rubber, allowing just five hits and two earned runs.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Congelosi led off the first inning with a single, but was caught stealing for the first time of the year, and the Bengals were unable to take the lead early.
  • New Paltz responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning to lead 1-0.
  • Parsons singled to lead off the second inning, but was erased on a double play one batter later.
  • The Bengals went down in order in the next three innings, and Pezdek kept the Hawks at bay until the fifth inning, when New Paltz added a second run on an RBI double by Jaycee Filancia.
  • After another hit by Congelosi to lead off the seventh inning, Buffalo State had the tying run at the plate, but couldn't manage anything against New Paltz pitcher Lindsay Roman.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Roman pitched a complete game with six strikeouts to earn the win for the Hawks, while Filancia was 2-for-3.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
  • Congelosi, Parsons, and Grace Albano (N. Tonawanda, NY/Niagara Wheatfield) each had a hit for the Bengals. Congelosi also walked and stole two bases.
  • Kaitlyn Schnitzer (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) took the loss, allowing just one run in 2.2 innings on the mound.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Congelosi led off the first inning with a walk and stole a base, but was stranded at third base.
  • In the third, Congelosi singled and advanced to third again, but was stuck there once again.
  • New Paltz struck for a run in the third on an RBI single by Jackie Rometo. Emma Hooftallen (Round Hill, VA/Woodgrove) came on in relief to strand the bases loaded to keep the score at 1-0.
  • The Hawks scored a pair of runs in the fifth to make it 3-0.
  • Buffalo State had runners on first and second in the sixth after hits by Albano and Parsons, but left the tying run at the plate.
  • New Paltz added three runs in the sixth to secure the victory, and the Bengals went down in order in the seventh.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Kelsey O'Brien went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while Sydney Waldon had a three-hit shutout in the circle.

The Bengals are back on the road tomorrow at Oneonta at 12 pm and 2 pm.
