BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo State softball team opened SUNYAC play on Sunday afternoon with a doubleheader sweep of Brockport, winning game one 2-1, before completing the sweep with a 9-1 victory.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
- Mya Hurley (Amherst, NY/Amherst) and Lexi Quagliana (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) each had three hits and drove in a run apiece.
- Sarah Congelosi (Montgomery, NY/Valley Central) went 2-for-2 with a triple, a pair of walks, and three runs scored.
- Caitlyn Parsons (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) had two hits and knocked in two runs.
- Madison Lucas (Oakdale, PA/West Allegheny) drove in a pair of runs at the plate, and threw a complete game one-hitter and allowed just one unearned run for her second win of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bengals struck for five runs in the top of the first inning, as Congelosi led off the game with a triple and scored on Hurley's single to left field.
- Three batters later, Lucas drilled an opposite-field double off the fence to drive in two runs, and Deme Kellogg (Gansevoort, NY/South Glens Falls) and Kaitlyn Schnitzer (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) both drove in a run.
- Parsons lined a single to left center to drive in two runs in the second inning, and Quagliana's third hit drove in a run in the fourth inning.
- The Golden Eagles took advantage of two Buffalo State errors in the bottom of the fourth inning to score their lone run.
- Congelosi walked, stole second and went to third on an errant throw, and then scored on a wild pitch in the top of the fifth inning, and Lucas set Brockport down in order in the bottom half of the inning to earn the run-rule victory.
FOR THE FOES
- Grace Talbut had the lone Brockport hit.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
- Izzy Pezdek (Lancaster, NY/Grand Island) earned her fourth win of the season, tossing a complete-game five-hitter and striking out eight batters.
- Parsons went 1-for-2 and drove in a run.
- Grace Albano (N. Tonawanda, NY/Niagara Wheatfield) went-1-for-1, walked twice, and scored a run.
- Kenzie Scott (Greene, NY/Greene) drove in the other Buffalo State run.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Congelosi walked, stole second and came home on a two-out RBI single up the middle by Parsons to put the Bengals up 1-0 in the top of the first inning.
- Pezdek worked out of a bases loaded jam with a strikeout in the bottom of the first inning to keep the Golden Eagles off the board.
- Albano walked to lead off the third inning and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Congelosi, before coming home on an RBI groundout by Scott.
- The Golden Eagles countered with a run of their own in the bottom of the third, but Pezdek once again stranded the bases loaded to keep the score at 2-1.
- Pezdek doubled to deep left field in the fourth and made it to third with one out, but the Bengals couldn't capitalize.
- Brockport put a runner on third base with nobody out in the sixth inning, and Pezdek came through again with three strikeouts to pitch out of danger.
- Pezdek pitched a hitless seventh inning to secure the victory for the Bengals.
FOR THE FOES
- Kendall Phillips pitched 3.1 effective innings of relief, allowing just one hit and striking out seven batters.
