HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After the first two innings were scoreless, St. John Fisher struck for two runs in the third of Bengals' starting pitcher Izzy Pezdek.
  • Buffalo State responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning, as Schnitzer led off with a single, advanced to second on a groundout, and came in to score on Albano's RBI single to right field.
  • Lucas entered the game and immediately got into trouble by putting runners on second and third with nobody out, before inducing three straight groundouts to keep the Cardinals from scoring.
  • Lucas once again stranded a runner on third by striking out the final two batters in the fifth inning.
  • Buffalo State had the best opportunity to tie or take the lead in the sixth inning with the bases loaded and nobody out, but the runners were stranded after a 5-2-3 double play and a flyout.
  • In the seventh inning, Deme Kellogg (Gansevoort, NY/South Glens Falls) led off with a single, but was erased on failed sacrifice bunt-turned double play and the Bengals were unable to tie the score.
