Natalia Sawyer Breaks Her Own School Record In Prelims On Day Two Of NCAA Championships

MYRTLE BEACH, SC – Natalia Sawyer (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont) of the Buffalo State outdoor track and field team broke her own school record as well as the SUNYAC record in the prelims of the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.67 seconds at day two of NCAA Championships. Her time earned her a spot at finals tomorrow with the second fastest qualifying time of the prelims.

Sawyer was front and center of the final heat of the prelims as she was able to cruise to victory, edging-out Aniya Seward of Lynchburg. She entered the meet with a personal-best and school record time of 13.77 seconds that she ran at SUNYAC Outdoor Championships back earlier this month. Sawyer will be seeded second heading into finals tomorrow as Laura Mathews of Stevens posted the top prelim time with a mark of 13.61 seconds in the opening heat of the event.

Tomorrow will be a packed day for Sawyer as she will compete in the finals of the 100-meter hurdles at 4:50 pm as well as the 400-meter hurdles at 6:15 pm where she will aim to defend her title from last outdoor season.
