Women's Volleyball Takes Down Houghton In Four Sets

HOUGHTON, NY – The Buffalo State women's volleyball team earned a non-conference win over the Houghton Highlanders in four sets tonight at the Nielson Center.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
  •  Ella Wittman (Cheektowaga, NY/Springville Griffith) and Samantha Coakley (Lockport, NY/Lockport) each tallied 14 kills for the Bengals.
  • April Jakubowski (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) dished out a career-high 43 assists.
  • On the defensive side of the ball, Adi Vergara (Rio Grande, Puerto Rico/Kingdom Christian) had 16 digs.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Bengals jumped out to quick 11-4 lead in the opening set.
  • Buffalo State kept control and held off a late rally from the Highlanders as they scored the final two points to win the first set.
  • After an 8-3 run in the middle of the second set, Houghton was able to shift the momentum as they earned the win in the second set.
  • In the third set, Houghton had an early 8-4 lead, then the Bengals rallied for six consecutive points to retake the lead.
  • Later in the set, the Bengals rallied off another 6-0 run before scoring the final four points to set themselves up for the victory.
  • With a late lead in the final set, Buffalo State was able to score seven of the final eight points to earn their fourth win in their last five overall matchups.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Lilly Bently led the Highlanders with 13 kills.
  • Logan Baer gave out 18 assists in the effort.
 
UP NEXT
The Bengals return to action on Saturday as they travel to Susquehanna to battle the River Hawks as well as Lebanon Valley College.
