HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Playing a home back-to-back, the Bengals looked to get their legs under them and have a strong performance against a talented Plattsburgh State Cardinals team. Entering the first quarter, the Bengals came out strong, going toe-to-toe with the Cardinals throughout the quarter. While the Cardinals would go up by eight-points in the quarter, the Bengals would storm back and take a two point, but the Cardinals would hit a three-pointer and take a two-point lead at the end of one.
  • The second quarter would bear the same resemblance of the first, with a back-and-forth game between the two teams. After the Bengals tied the Cardinals midway in the quarter, the Cardinals would go on an 8-0 run to extend their lead over the Bengals. While the Bengals were able to chip away at their deficit, they saw themselves go into halftime down by five points.
  • Coming out of halftime, the Bengals fought their hardest to get this game within one possession. However, things were tough for the Bengals as efforts to get this game under five-points proved to be troublesome, with the streaky Cardinals going on a 9-0 run, and extending their lead over the Bengals by 15-points. Credit to the Bengals as some sharp shooting from the field brought this game to 11-points as the third quarter buzzer sounded.
  • In the fourth quarter, the Bengals showed their grit, bringing this matchup within single digits throughout the quarter. After bringing their deficit down by two-points, the Bengals had the Cardinals backs against the wall, but another mini-run from the Cardinals would extend their lead back to nine-points. This would prove to be just enough to squeak the Cardinals across the finish line, and the Bengals dropping their second-consecutive game this weekend.
FOR THE FOES
  • Payton Couture led all scorers with 24 points, with Imani Walcott led the Cardinals with nine rebounds.
UP NEXT
The Bengals will get some weekend rest before returning to action next Tuesday, as they host the Cortland Red Dragons in the Sports Arena at 4:00 P.M.
