HOW IT HAPPENED
- Going into this game on the sour end of a losing streak, the Bengals looked to stake their claim in a rivalry game, in enemy territory against the Fredonia Blue Devils. The first quarter saw the Bengals open strong, dominating on the defensive end and making scoring difficult for the Blue Devils. A low-scoring, high intensity quarter from the Bengals proved to be fruitful, as they would head into the second quarter up four-points on the Blue Devils.
- In the second quarter, the Blue Devils would respond back to the Bengals hard-nosed play, tighten up their defensive efforts before going on a 9-0 run to take the lead over the Bengals. However, the Bengals would continue to keep things close, grabbing a late bucket and trail heading into halftime by one-point.
- In the third quarter, the Blue Devils would take over the game from the Bengals, continuing their strong effort on both sides of the ball. With the Bengals struggling for points on the offensive end, they would see their once one-point deficit increase to seven-points as this game hit its midway point. A strong effort from the Bengals would get this game within four-points, but the Blue Devils would close the third quarter on a mini-run and head into the fourth quarter leading by eight-points.
- The fourth quarter would see the most action from both teams, with the Bengals fighting back harder while the Blue Devils rebellious in keeping their lead. A heavy haymaker would see the Bengals chip their deficit down to three-points in the quarter, free throws and a six-point run would find the Blue Devils up by 11-points. While the Bengals would keep their attack going, the Blue Devils would prove to be too much, outlasting the Bengals and taking this first chapter of the 'Battle by the Lake' series.
