Women’s Volleyball Falls in Hard-Fought Match Against Oswego State

BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo State women's volleyball team fell in four sets, 3-1, to the Oswego State Lakers in their latest SUNYAC matchup.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
  • Ella Wittman (Cheektowaga, NY/Springville Griffith) led the Bengals with a team-high 16 kills, while Nicole Delli Colli (Rye, NY/Rye) added 12 kills to help keep the the Bengals offense in rhythm.
  • April Jakubowski (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) directed the attack with a team-leading 21 assists, and Karlie Shaffer (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown East) contributed 16 assists in support.
  • On the defensive end, Wittman and Delli Colli each recorded 17 digs, while Shaffer chipped in with 13 digs to round out a strong all-around effort.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a week off, the Buffalo State Bengals returned to action well-rested as they hosted the Oswego State Lakers in SUNYAC play.
  • The opening set saw both teams trading points early as they looked to gain control. A three-point surge gave the Bengals a brief advantage, but the Lakers answered with a four-point rally to take the lead late. Despite a late push from the Bengals' offense, the Lakers held firm to claim the first set.
  • The Bengals bounced back in dominant fashion in the second set, winning the "race to 15" with strong offensive execution and steady defensive play. The Bengals closed the frame with seven unanswered points to even the match at one set apiece.
  • The third set mirrored the intensity of the first, with both sides exchanging points early. Down by three midway through, the Bengals were unable to halt a five-point rally, as the Lakers used another late run to secure the third set and retake the lead.
  • The fourth and final set showcased the competitiveness of the night, with the two teams battling to a tie through the midway point. After back-to-back three-point rallies, the Bengals looked poised to force a decisive fifth set. However, the Lakers responded with a four-point run of their own to close out the match and earn a hard-fought victory in this tightly contested SUNYAC showdown.
FOR THE FOES
  • Priscilla McReynolds led the Lakers' attack with 15 kills, while Mya Bush orchestrated the offense with a game-high 38 assists.
  • On the defensive side, McReynolds also tallied 18 digs and shared the team lead in blocks with Kalley Vugteveen, each recording two.
UP NEXT
The Bengals will turn their attention to Senior Day tomorrow afternoon, hosting the SUNY Canton Roos at 1:00 p.m. inside the Sports Arena.
