Men's Basketball Falls To Rochester

ROCHESTER, NY – The Buffalo State men's basketball team fell to the University of Rochester this evening to open the Rochester Tournament at the Louis Alexander Palestra.

  • Hali Shabazz (Buffalo, NY/St. Joe's) paced the Bengals with 15 points while Ephraim Strong (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) had a strong showing with 12 points and a team high seven rebounds.
  • Chisom Ani (Elmont, NY/John Browne) added seven points, four rebounds, two blocks, and a steal.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Rochester dominated from the start as the Yellowjackets jumped out to a swift 20-6 start.
  • Despite a late first half run from the Bengals, the Yellowjackets kept the offense pushing as they carried a 52-30 lead into halftime.
  • Rochester saw their lead in the second half to a game-high 41 before closing out the win in the final seconds.
  • The Yellowjackets held the advantage rebounding 46-36 while also going 10-25 (40%) from three-point range.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Sam Henderson led the Yellowjackets with 19 points and five rebounds with Corvin Oprea adding 12 points, two steals, and three assists.

The Bengals return to action tomorrow as they will battle Springfield to close out the tournament at 1:00 pm.
