HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Following a tough loss last night to the SUNY Potsdam Bears, the Bengals looked to bounce back in a challenging matchup against the No. 8 Plattsburgh State Cardinals to close out their SUNYAC opening weekend.
  • In the opening period, the Cardinals struck first with a goal in the ninth minute to take an early lead. The Bengals' defense settled in from there, absorbing sustained pressure and keeping the Cardinals off the board the rest of the frame, heading into the first intermission down just one.
  • The second period followed a similar script, with the Cardinals maintaining extended time in the Bengals' defensive zone. Credit to Knott and the Bengals' defensive unit for standing tall and limiting the Cardinals' chances. The Bengals generated a few looks of its own, but couldn't break through, entering the second intermission still searching for the equalizer.
  • In the third period, with the Cardinals seeking an insurance goal and the Bengals hunting the tying score, physicality ramped up on both sides. Although the Cardinals again controlled much of the zone time, the Bengals created transition opportunities to stay within striking distance. However, time ran out on the comeback attempt, as the Bengals fell in a hard-fought matchup.
FOR THE FOES
  • Kayson Ruegge scored the lone goal for the Cardinals.
  • In net, Chloe Lewis picked up the shutout victory, making 12 saves.
