BUFFALO, NY – The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announced its SUNYAC Commissioner's Cup standings following conference championships for the fall teams. Buffalo State currently sits in third overall (6.40 avg. points) of the ten school conference trailing only New Paltz at second and Cortland in first.
The fall season was another strong showing for the Bengals with both women's soccer and women's volleyball reaching the SUNYAC Semifinals, and men's soccer reaching the SUNYAC Championship for a second straight season. In addition, men's cross country finished fourth at the conference meet with the women's side taking home ninth. Across the five teams, the Bengals totaled 17 All-SUNYAC selections including the SUNYAC Player and Rookie of the Year in men's soccer in Diego Rivera (East Meadow, NY/Cairo Durham) and Lesedi Sekhobo (Albany, NY/Shaker), respectively.
The Commissioner's Cup point system is determined by the 22 different conference sports in the fall, winter and spring. A 10-point system is used in each sport. The first-place team gets 10 points, the second-place team gets 9 points and so on. A team's regular-season finish will be added to their post-season finish and divided by two for their final total for that sport. The total number of points that a school accumulates is divided by the number of conference sports it has. This school total determines the overall winner at the end of the academic year.
The cup was named for Dr. Patrick R. Damore in 2012 when he retired as the SUNYAC Commissioner after serving in the position for 33 years. Damore passed away at the age of 90 on May 23, 2021.
